Breaking News Updates: Key Events Shaping Nigeria’s Political Future
Breaking News: Buba Galadima, a former National Secretary of the Congress for Progressive Change and a key figure in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has made a bold claim that has stirred political discussions across Nigeria. He alleged that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is acting as a placeholder for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the Social Democratic Party (SDP), ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.

Galadima advised Atiku against contesting again in 2027, urging him to step aside for new leadership. According to him, recycling the same candidates weakens the opposition and creates voter fatigue. He also expressed that El-Rufai does not possess the credibility to build a strong opposition movement from the ground up.
“El-Rufai cannot build a formidable opposition from scratch. He’s just holding a place for Atiku,” Galadima said.

Galadima stated that while he prefers to assess a government after two full years, Nigeria’s current economic crisis cannot be ignored. He noted rising inflation, currency devaluation, and mass poverty as key concerns. However, he acknowledged a drop in food prices, attributing it to alleged secret importation by political allies.

The NNPP Under Siege
According to Galadima, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is attempting to destroy the NNPP, particularly in Kano. He alleged that security agencies have been withdrawn from the Kano State Government and that APC has created parallel political structures to undermine Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration.
Galadima claimed that the APC has offered bribes to NNPP members. He also revealed that a senator admitted to receiving N90 billion worth of federal projects to weaken the NNPP’s influence in Kano.
Defections and Propaganda
He dismissed rumors that NNPP members are defecting to APC. Instead, he clarified that those leaving were already expelled from the party due to misconduct. Galadima emphasized that the party’s strength lies in its grassroots support.
He also refuted allegations of NNPP aligning with President Tinubu, calling it political propaganda.

El-Rufai and the SDP
While El-Rufai has not personally approached him, Galadima confirmed that mutual associates and SDP leadership have made contact. He emphasized that El-Rufai lacks public trust due to past political betrayals and that any political ambitions tied to him are doomed to fail.
Coalition Politics and 2027
Galadima confirmed that many politicians have approached Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, including El-Rufai, regarding possible coalitions. However, he warned that forming a coalition too early would give the ruling APC enough time to dismantle it.
He stressed that any political merger must be based on ideology, not desperation.
PDP and Zoning Debate
Galadima declared the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) “beyond repair,” riddled with internal factions and manipulated by figures like Nyesom Wike, who he accused of interfering in the judiciary.
He also rejected the North-South zoning arrangement, claiming democracy should be about open competition, not rotation. He insisted that any Nigerian should be free to contest the presidency.
Galadima also commented on the state of Nigerian politics, emphasizing the need for genuine democratic processes and the inclusion of fresh, credible candidates. He urged political parties to focus on the welfare of Nigerians rather than personal ambitions. He pointed out that the country needs a leadership that prioritizes long-term stability over short-term gains. He also discussed the role of young Nigerians in shaping the political landscape, advocating for more youth participation in the decision-making process. Galadima believes the future
