Why Mikel Arteta would have encountered a familiar problem with Junior Firpo transfer
Mikel Arteta was unable to sign the left- back he was looking for before the close of the January transfer window.
Arsenal were among the busiest Premier League clubs in January, with Mikel Arteta’s side largely focusing on outgoing deals.
That saw Kolasinac, Mesut Ozil, Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis leave the Emirates Stadium, with the five players all set to see their deals expire at the end of the campaign.
Following a number of those departures, Arsenal’s focus shifted towards securing new additions – with Mat Ryan and Martin Odegaard arriving on loan from Brighton and Real Madrid respectively.
Arteta’s recruitment drive was not done there though, as he targeted a late swoop for a left- back to provide depth beneath Kieran Tierney.
