Thomas Tuchel Explains Why He Blocked Two Chelsea Players’ Transfer Window Exits
Thomas Tuchel explains why he blocked two Chelsea players’ transfer window exits.
Thomas Tuchel has revealed he blocked the exits of Chelsea players Billy Gilmour and Tino Anjorin in the January transfer window. Both Gilmour and Anjorin had loan offers on the table on transfer deadline day but Tuchel said he wanted to keep both academy stars at Stamford Bridge. Gilmour had been open to leaving the club on a temporary basis in order to boost his hopes of being involved in Scotland’s squad for the postponed Euro 2020 this summer. Despite starting the season in former manager Frank Lampard’s plans, he has only played 34 minutes of Premier League football after recovering from injury.
Anjorin has yet to be involved in the first team this season but has been training regularly with the squad and has done enough to convince Tuchel that he should be in contention for the second half of the season.
‘I was in only a few days, I was happy with every guy that was out there on the pitch, there were no big injuries. ‘So there was no need for one minute to think about bringing players in. It was the opposite, we decided to keep Tino Anjorin and Billy Gilmour with the group because I like a lot what I see from the two guys.
