Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Sends Thinly Veiled Message To Erling Haaland Over Man Utd Transfer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sends thinly veiled message to Erling Haaland over Man Utd transfer.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not distanced himself from a move for Erling Haaland and hopes the Borussia Dortmund star remembers the positive impact he had on the striker’s career. The 20-year-old, who has 15 Bundesliga goals in as many appearances this season, is one of Europe’s most in -demand players and is being chased by the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City and Juventus.

United also have long-standing interest in Haaland and tried to sign him when he was at Salzburg, with Solskjaer knowing the young forward extremely well having given him his first opportunity at Molde.

United continue to be linked with the striker – who has a £68million release clause that becomes active next year – and Solskjaer has made it clear he is a huge fan of his countryman and clearly hopes the feeling is reciprocated.

Asked if United can compete for Haaland’s signature against the biggest clubs in Europe, and whether Solskjaer gives them an advantage, the coach told VG: ‘It is clear that Erling is going to have a fantastic career.

We will see where he ends up. As a Norwegian and someone who has worked with him, it is of course great that he is doing so well. Haaland has not always been so prolific, netting just two goals in 12 league games as a 17-year-old before Solskjaer sat him down for a meeting that may have changed the trajectory of his career – and the United boss clearly hopes his young charge has not forgotten about it. He continued: ‘I reckon Erling remembers when we sat at Lubbenes [Molde’s training ground] the day before the Brann game. I feel like that was an important day for Molde, for him and for our relationship.

We are going to do what we can to become a better team, and he will do what he can to become a better player. ‘Where he ends up? I do not want to say anything else. I wish him all the best. What choice he makes is up to him. On whether Solskjaer’s meeting with Haaland has already proven he knows how to get the best out of him, the United boss added: ‘He had a very bad spell before that. I am sure he remembers that. It is a great pleasure following him. He will have a long, long, long career that is going to surpass most of what any Norwegian player has done.
